I have been a fan of Mr. Jones for years now, being completely entranced by his wonderful Faerie Path and Warrior Princess Series. Now, here is the exclusive interview with Allan Frewin Jones!

1. Tania faces a number of challenges throughout this series—how do you handle the stress of large challenges?


It’s said that the longest journey begins with but a single step. That’s how I deal with stressful challenges: by taking them one step at a time. I find the best way to deal with large, stressful challenges is to cut them up into smaller, less stressful challenges—then deal with them individually. Like, when I begin a new book, I don’t think of the whole mountainous journey that lies ahead of me—I give myself lesser obstacles, like getting to the end of chapter one—then getting to the end of chapter two. And on difficult days, I just think of how to get to the end of a paragraph or a scene, and I take a time-out when I get there as a reward.

2. Which of Tania’s love interests would you be more drawn to? The faerie Edric or mortal Connor?

I’m not entirely sure I’m the best person to judge this one, but I’ll give it a try. When it comes down to it, it’s really a question of whether a person is attracted to the known or the unknown—to relative safety or potential danger, to the commonplace or the stupendous. Tania has known Connor most of her life; this does not mean she can read him like a book, but it means she has a reasonably good idea of what he is like—thus, going with Connor would be the comfortable, safe option. But Edric—he’s another thing entirely. She has only known him a few months, he has lied to her and duped her and was the instrument of a man who wanted Tania for his own ends. He comes from an entirely different world and has lived for over five hundred years, so although he is actually only seventeen, he has an accumulation of knowledge and life that is way beyond what Tania has experienced in her sixteen years. The fear in Edric’s case would be of entirely losing yourself in him—like a plunge from a cliff top into an unknown ocean. So, do you trust in his love and do you feel willing to take that plunge? I’d like to think I would. It might be terrifying, but it will be one wild ride!


3. What would be your ideal first date?

Dinner for two in a really great restaurant. It would be long and leisurely, and the table would be on a veranda under a starry summer sky, with a river flowing past just a few feet away. Then, after the meal, we’d take a moonlit stroll along the river embankment and over a bridge or two. We would just talk the night away, and then we’d find a bench by the river and sit there to watch the sun come up.


4. In your mind, how can you tell when you’re meant to be with someone?

The poets say that love enters through the eyes. Of course, once love has arrived, it has a whole lot of other things to take note of, but that first sight of someone special holds the key to the whole business. I first saw my life partner across a crowded room, dressed all in black, with black hair and a stunningly attractive face. I asked a friend to go find out who this amazing person was. I didn’t actually know I was in love for a few days—I was just lightning-struck and a bit dizzy. We met four or five times before moving in together. We’ve been together now for eighteen years. Sometimes it is just right, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it happening.


5. What real-world spot have you been to that’s closest to Avalon?

I would have to say the high cliffs of Tintagel on the north Cornish coast. It has strong connections to the legend of King Arthur. There has been a castle there for hundreds of years, windswept, ruinous now, rising high above the waves that come crashing in against the rocky cliffs. Seagulls wheel and cry and occasionally the dark, sleek heads of seals emerge watchfully from the surf. There is a cave on the shore—Merlin’s Cave, some people call it—or simply the Wizard’s Cave. I have been in there and felt a huge presence close by—whether human, animal, or pure spirit, I couldn’t say. The high ridges of Tintagel can only be approached by a long precarious walk across narrow wooden bridges and up flights of uneven stone steps that take you to vertiginous heights above the sea. Whenever I go there I make my way to the very edge of the cliff, where plates of slate jut out over the sea, and I sit there and gaze across to the horizon, listening to the ancient voices of the world and forgetting all earthbound things. On a warm summer’s day, I could sit there forever. One day, maybe I shall.

Tania's adventures continue as she sets upon a quest to save the Immortality of the people of Faerie. With Rathina and Connor by her side she must unravel clues and mysteries spun to her by mystical being she isn't sure she can trust. They will cross mysterious and dangerous lands on their journey to save the Realm from a plague that is running rampant. Trouble comes from near and far to bar their way to the Divine Harper, but a trouble they cannot begin to imagine is hiding in their midst. Dark secrets lying before them, and even darker ones lying among them. As their trek takes impossible turns the group is reminded that nothing is impossible with true love. But love is a strange and rare thing indeed with Rathina's beloved but malevolent Gabriel Drake long gone, Connor's seemingly unrequited love for Tania, and Edric's soul being eaten away by the Dark Arts.
But new and old friend will return to help them along their quest as they work to fight the impossible. All the while they struggle, Rathina and Tania's strength and the strength of their family is being sapped away to fuel the Gildensleep that covers the land of Faerie. Will Tania finish her quest in time to save Faerie or will their endurance fail them before all is done?

And so the adventure continues. I must say this fifth book did a good job of keeping me on the edge of my seat all the way through. There were so many questions I was dying to have answered from, "Will Tania end of with Edric or Connor?" to "Is the door to the Mortal World really closed forever?!". This book did a good job answering those question but now I find myself with even more question dancing in my head not to mention all of the riddles woven neatly throughout the novel only to leave me with a major cliff-hanger. But there is no question as to whether you should read this series. I honestly believe anyone would love it. The writing is magnificent and you cannot help but become attached to the character and find yourself cheering for them at every turn. All I have to say is; Bravo, Mr. Jones! You've done it again!...Now hurry up with that last book before I die of suspense. =)

Destiny's Path by Frewin Jones

Warrior Princess Book 2: Destiny's Path by Frewin Jones 5 of 5 stars.

Frewin Jones is one of my favorite authors for a reason. His books are vividly descriptive, they see everything and leave nothing out. Destiny's Path is no exception. It blows me away the details to the battles within this second book in the Warrior Princess series. I could never have guessed how this story would unfold, I was surprised all the way through. Old and new characters turn up everywhere and you are never sure how they're going to come or where they are going. The ending of this novel is such a complete surprise it takes your breath away. There is suspense all the way through. (I started reading this about lunch time and couldn't put it down until I was done with it at one in the morning.) While Warrior Princess seemed more historical fiction with just a dash of the supernatural thrown in, Destiny's Path is full of vividly wonderful fantasy. I love the characters completely and totally. The heroine especially. Now, I just can't wait to get my hands on that next book and see what other adventures come Branwen's way!

The Faerie Path: Immortal Realm

The Faerie Path: Immortal Realm by Frewin Jones 5 of 5 stars.
For those of you who are fans of the Faerie Path books you know that the third one left us with a seemingly happily ever after ending, but what happens on the day after happily ever after? Tania's father asks her this very question just moments before her happily ever after comes crashing down around her. Edric, excited by the revelries of Cordelia and Bryn Lightfoot's marriage, proposes to Tania. Though, Tania loves Edric she cannot accept his proposal, for though she is a five hundred-and-something Immortal Princess she only remembers the last 16 years of her Mortal life and that is far too young for marriage. Edric is crushed and leaves her with the words, "In this world, love without the covenant of commitment is like a promise written on a cloud... Let me know when you feel grownup enough to be my wife. I will be waiting." But things go from bad to worse when a Faerie infant dies unexpectedly. It is believed that Tania's Mortal father brought in a sickness from the Mortal world and it is plaguing Faerie. What they don't expect is to find out that it is something far worse. The kingdom is split apart when a phony Healer is brought in to try to cure the disease, and takes a dislike to Tania. Some are on Princess Tania's side though others are insisting she must be banished from the realm. Tania must gather all of her strength and courage to discover what is really causing the plague and what the cure might be.

I absolutely loved this book! But, I must say it was extremely sad, and didn't get any better, only worse. It ends with a cliff-hanger that will keep us waiting on the edge of our seats for the 5th book. It was written with the same poetic and beautiful feel as the past three books. In some ways it kind of felt like the Faerie Path equivalent of New Moon, Edric steps out of the picture and a new guy steps in. All in all it was very surprising.
