The Princess and the Hound by Mette Ivie Harrison 5 of 5 stars.
He is a prince and heir to a kingdom threatened on all sides, possessor of the forbidden animal magic.
She is a princess from a rival kingdom, the daughter her father never wanted, isolated from all except her hound.
In this lush and beautifully written fairy-tale romance, a prince, a princess, and two kingdoms are joined in the aftermath of a war. Proud, stubborn, and bound to marry for duty, George and Beatrice will steal your heart -- but will they fall in love? (Summary from book)
The Princess and the Hound was a wonderful read. Hearing the plot summary it sounds more of a Rapunzel, Cinderella type story, but it is actually more similar to Beauty and the Beast. Mette Ivie Harrison wrote with a classic feel, rather than the choppy script usually found in modern fairy-tale novels. The plot is a bit slow paced and there isn't as much fast-paced action as some might enjoy, but it is a great story and a very fun to read.

Thanks for the review! I love fairy tales so this book has been on my wish list for some time, but I had no idea it was more Beauty and the Beast-like. Thanks for making that comparison.
